Comparten sueños, secretos y dificultades mientras cosen ropa —y sus vidas— juntas. Pero una de ellas esconde algo que podría cambiarlo todo...
2. CONOCE A LA AUTOR
JOSEFINA LÓPEZ comenzó su carrera como dramaturga a los 17 años y ha realizado más de 150 producciones de sus numerosas obras por todo el país. Josefina lleva más de 30 años trabajando como guionista profesional en Hollywood, con innumerables contratos de desarrollo y encargos de guion. Nacida en San Luis Potosí, México, en 1969, Josefina López tenía cinco años cuando ella y su familia vinieron a los Estados Unidos y se establecieron en Los Ángeles.
3. CUÁNDO Y DÓNDE
LA PRIMERA SEMANA DE SEPTIEMBRE DEL 1987
Durante este tiempo, Estados Unidos estaba experimentando cambios importantes.
Ronald Reagan era presidente y el país estaba inmerso en la ola conservadora que ahora ayuda a definir a los EE.UU. en la década de 1980.
La Ley de Reforma y Control de la Inmigración se había aprobado el año anterior, ofreciendo amnistía a algunos inmigrantes indocumentados, pero muchos todavía vivían con miedo e incertidumbre.
Era una época anterior a los teléfonos inteligentes, las redes sociales o el acceso generalizado a Internet, lo que hacía que la comunicación y el activismo fueran más localizados y personales.

El este de Los Ángeles era (y sigue siendo) una comunidad vibrante y dominado por los mexicoamericanos.
En la década de 1980, era conocida por su rica cultura chicana, sus coloridos murales y su fuerte identidad. Sin embargo, también enfrentaba desafíos: escuelas sobrepobladas, servicios públicos con insuficientes fondos y oportunidades laborales limitadas.
Muchas mujeres trabajaban en fábricas de costura informales, o “talleres clandestinos”, donde a menudo se ignoraban las leyes laborales.
A pesar de estas luchas, East LA era un lugar de resiliencia, creatividad y orgullo comunitario, cualidades que se reflejan en los personajes de Las Mujeres de Verdad Tienen Curvas.

Before beginning their journey in Uhuru, it is helpful to understand the challenges of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Reaching the summit takes determination, preparation, and the ability to overcome difficult conditions.

The climb to the summit usually takes 5 to 9 days, depending on the route.

Hikers sleep in tents or mountain huts along the trail as they travel up the mountain.

Most experts recommend spending 7 to 9 days on the climb to allow time to adjust to the altitude.

The higher you climb, the thinner the air becomes, which can make hiking more difficult.

Taking extra time helps reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Slower climbs give hikers a better chance of reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Porters are people that carry supplies supports the expedition, and are often underpaid and under valued. while their contributions are what make the climb possible.
UNA PEQUEÑA FÁBRICA DE COSTURA EN EL ESTE DE LOS ÁNGELES
In the play, the characters travel on The Machame Route. The Machame Route is one of the most popular ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. Located in Tanzania, this route takes climbers through several different environments, including lush rainforests, rocky moorlands, and dry alpine deserts. The journey usually takes six to seven days, giving hikers time to adjust to the high altitude before reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak. Known for its stunning views and challenging trails, the Machame Route attracts thousands of climbers each year from around the world.

At Alley Theatre we have access to some of the best and most talented theatrical designers in the industry. We also have some of the most state of the art theatre spaces in the country. This gives us the unique opportunity to have a lot of creative mobility when it comes to how we present our shows. This production is also a world premiere, meaning a majority of these design elements had to be made completely from scratch from conception to creation. Pancha – Apacible pero mordaz, batalla con la infertilidad, le encantan los bocadillos y el sarcasmo, y no confía fácilmente. Es escéptica ante las ideas de Ana, pero poco a poco se abre, revelando su vulnerabilidad y lealtad.
